Standard Large Flange Rivets

Standard large flange rivets are designed for permanent fastening applications where a larger bearing surface is required on the material.

Compared with a conventional dome head rivet, the larger head diameter distributes the load over a wider area, making this configuration particularly useful when working with thin, soft or more sensitive materials.

Within the Bearfix range, the large flange configuration is identified with the suffix TL.

DIN 7337 large flange rivets

Bearfix large flange standard rivets are available in different materials, diameters and lengths to suit different assembly requirements.

The main configurations include:

  • AL-TL: aluminium Mg 3.5 rivet body with zinc-plated steel mandrel.
  • IX A2-TL: stainless steel rivet body with stainless steel mandrel.

AL-TL – Aluminium Mg 3.5 / zinc-plated steel

AL-TL rivets combine an aluminium Mg 3.5 body with a zinc-plated steel mandrel.

This family is available in diameters from 3.2 to 4.8 mm and forms part of the Bearfix DIN 7337 standard rivet range.

The large flange provides a greater contact area between the rivet head and the component, helping to distribute the fastening load over a wider surface.

IX A2-TL – Stainless steel

IX A2-TL rivets provide the same large flange geometry with a stainless steel material configuration.

The catalogue includes this family in diameters from 3.2 to 4.8 mm.

This configuration is intended for applications where stainless steel is required for the fastening system.

Characteristics of large flange rivets

  • Large flange head.
  • Greater bearing surface than a conventional dome head.
  • Installation from only one side of the joint.
  • Available in different diameters and lengths.
  • Aluminium and stainless steel configurations.
  • Suitable for applications where the load needs to be distributed over a wider area.

Applications

Large flange rivets are particularly suitable for applications where the material surrounding the fastening point requires a larger bearing surface.

The increased head diameter helps distribute the load applied by the rivet and can be useful when fastening:

  • Thin sheet materials.
  • Soft or lower-strength materials.
  • Components with larger or less rigid fastening surfaces.
  • Assemblies where a larger visible rivet head is acceptable or required.

The correct diameter and length should always be selected according to the hole diameter and the total thickness of the materials to be joined.

Large flange or extra-large flange?

Bearfix offers two enlarged head configurations within the standard rivet range:

  • TL – Large flange: provides a larger bearing surface than the conventional dome head.
  • TXL – Extra-large flange: provides an even greater bearing surface for applications requiring a particularly wide rivet head.

The appropriate configuration depends on the geometry of the assembly and the amount of surface area required around the fastening point.

How to select a large flange rivet

To select the correct large flange rivet, consider:

  • Rivet diameter.
  • Rivet length.
  • Total thickness of the joint.
  • Hole diameter.
  • Required head diameter.
  • Rivet body material.
  • Mandrel material.

The rivet length must be selected according to the actual total thickness of the materials to be joined.
